About Us

  • Camp Celtic is a children’s sports, arts and outdoor adventure campground located on the rugged Bruce Peninsula near the village of Lion’s Head, Ontario, Canada. During the summer months, hundreds of young people 7-18 attend our camp sessions where they receive instruction from some of the best professionals in the country. Campers enjoy a healthy, caring and exciting camp atmosphere where good friends, good times and good fellowship abound.

Camp Celtic was founded by the Matheson family in 1984. Our full-time endeavour is to provide top-notch instruction and leadership for campers and athletes from around the province.

The adventure of attending camp presents a great opportunity to grow. It is important then, that Celtic and other camps go a bit beyond their instructional role and try to increase campers’ insight, awareness, and appreciation of self and nature.

Our promise to parents and coaches is that we will provide Celtic’s campers and athletes the very best camp experience possible.

    Facilities

The Camp Celtic campground is 200 acres of playing fields, buildings, forest, rock and wetlands. Surrounding Celtic in all directions is undeveloped wilderness forest. The beach facility is Sandy Beach which is found within the boundaries of the Black Creek Provincial Park. The clean, sand bottom beach is an ideal location to swim and learn to sail or paddle.

Our facilities include modern, serviced bunkhouses, central washrooms, a quality kitchen and dining facility large enough for the entire camp, and a well equipped infirmary with a registered nurse.

Our sports facilities include full size outdoor basketball and tennis courts, an indoor facility for all-weather playing, a regulation soccer pitch, seventeen turf volleyball courts and sand courts, a ropes course and climbing walls, an archery range, and a driving range and practice facility for the golf programme.

Our watersports programme includes CL 14 sailboats and a fleet of Kayaks and Windsurfers with undersized rigging for the beginner.

We also have an outdoor stage, a radio broadcasting station, and a resource hut for environmental studies and camp crafts.

    Faculty and Staff

Celtic’s instructional and counselling staff are selected for their leadership ability, skills, and experience. Where applicable, our programme directors are professionals who have achieved provincial and national recognition in their fields.

Pre-camp training for counselling staff deals with common problems experienced by campers, especially younger and first time campers. We place great emphasis on our staff’s ability to set a good example and to become close friends and mentors to the campers entrusted to their care.

Our registered nurse works closely with in-cabin counsellors to ensure camper care and safety. Celtic is located within minutes of medical care at Lion’s Head Hospital, 10km from camp.
